about PARTS by Sanne Jansen
By Sanne Jansen is a one-woman-show ran by me, fashion designer Sanne Jansen. My love for the different aspects of fashion once drove me towards this business. I have never dreamed of becoming a fashion designer, but my love for textile, 3D-design, drawing, photography and graphic design made me decide this was the best way to combine all of it. It became my way of communicating.
Many years later I am still managing all these different parts of the job. From designing and producing the garments to taking pictures and designing the website. It’s a lot to handle, maybe even too much, but the diversity keeps my engine running. Instead of enlarging the team I have adjusted the way of running my label to keep this way of working possible and to keep enjoying working on all aspects. Making sure that I literally touch every part.
Of course the design part is the most visible and characteristic, but for me my garments are not complete without taking the pictures as well. It puts me in charge of telling the complete story. Since it’s my eye looking through the camera seeing when it’s right. It helped me telling a very consistent visual story that is complementing my designs.
The last 5 years by Sanne Jansen was about creating one new outfit every month. It was a step away from the classic 'two collections a year', but after five years things have changed even further. I once started the label out of love for making beautiful garments. My love for fabrics, tailoring and eye for detail have led to several loved pieces, but more and more I came to realize that I was still struggling to truly perfect my designs and ideas without time pressuring me. So I’ve decided to step away from the “classic” system of fashion even further. From now on I will take my time to design, develop, produce and present each piece when it is totally ready. It can be a garment or a complete outfit and when the time is right it will come out as a limited edition.
To add to this story I want to use my work to stage the stories of women that inspire me. I will make their portraits in both pictures and words. It’s an interesting way to get to know these women, hear about their wisdom and their flaws. I will talk to them about the way they live their lives, their take on fashion, what gets them out of bed in the morning and anything else that might come up. These women are like the customers that wear my clothes; optimistic, inspiring, enthusiastic and in the midst of life!
